GROW UP!

GROW UP is one of the 1st songs I wrote. I was inspired by someone who could hardly accept his failures in life, someone who makes things harder than they seem to be and someone who traps himself into somewhere he never wanted to be. And to tell you honestly; that someone is no one else but ME. I was stuck into a hard shell that all I could see was nothing but the darker side of life. I regret my mistakes without realizing I could learn from them. But as I grow older, I started to see things differently. “Life is what we make it”. That’s the lesson I’ve learned through the years of my existence in this world. Let’s accept the fact that most of the time, we live the way we want not the way we should be. We all grow older and older each day but only few can truly GROW UP.

I recorded this song with my friend Orlan Apinado using my mp3 recorder last September 2010. The quality isn’t that good so it’s better if you will use ear phones than playing it with loud speakers. :)

GROW UP

1st Stanza

You ran away because you can’t survive

all the pain in all the saddest part of life.

You live each day not so satisfied

with what you give, with what you take.

Refrain

Life seems to be so tough.

But don’t say you’ve had enough.

Chorus

Grow up! Don’t let your eyes cry.

Life is easy if you want it to be.

Grow up! Don’t let your dreams die.

Life is easy… You just make it hard.

2nd Stanza

You’ll find a way don’t drown yourself with lies,

Cuz no one else can help you out but yourself.

Give it a try cuz time will pass you by.

Take the chance to make things right.

Bridge

Everything is bound to change.

There’s nothing here that stays the same.

And you will see things fade away.

Writing Something about Anything

I don’t think I can tell you directly what to write about. Of course we all have our own beliefs and principles in life. We have our own unique kind of thinking. I might agree with something you can never agree with. But based on my own experience, we can all share the same aspect in songwriting that can absolutely lead us to the right track.

Know your subject- Every song written should have a particular subject. Whether it’s all about love, life, sadness, happiness, anything! You name it!  Just be sure that what you write means something.

It should be natural- Express it by your own words or terms depending on how you really feel. Writing your own song should be a teamwork of your heart, mind and soul.

Write about something you know- How can you write about a particular thing if you have no idea about it?  Well, it’s okay if you are just being creative by trying to write about something you are not familiar with. But always remember that your song has to be reliable. How can anyone trust your words if you, yourself is being doubtful about it?

Be yourself- When you are writing, make sure you are not trying to be someone you think is better than you. You can be better enough by just being yourself. We all have our own unique ways in songwriting. So just write the way you are and you will do a good job!

1st Major Things You Should Know About Guitar Playing

It’s been quite awhile that I’ve been practicing my guitar playing skill. It was though at first but eventually you will be able to get used to it. Of course learning anything is a process. You should take one step at a time. Though I’m just an amateur guitarist, I’ll be sharing all the things I know regarding guitar playing that I believe would be helpful especially if you are just starting to learn guitar.

Guitar Tuning- Your guitar tuning should be technically accurate.  There’s actually a lot of guitar tunings that you can choose from but you won’t be needing them right now.  Standard tuning is the most suggested tuning for beginners.

Here’s how a standard tuning looks like:

Guitar Chords- Most of the beginners find it difficult to learn guitar chords because it “hurts” their finger tips. Well, we all started that way. But eventually your fingers will be numb so just keep on practicing.  There’s also a lot of guitar chord patterns but we’ll have to learn the basic patterns first.

Here are the Basic Major And Minor Chords:

Chord Progression- This is very important especially if you are writing your own song. You should know how to combine those chords the right way. I will try to explain it in my own terms so I hope you guys can get it.

Here’s The Key Chord Chart:

You should have at least 4 combined chords for your chord progression. So I’ll point it out how to combine it rightly. Can you see those columns highlighted with gray on the chart? That is actually it! The formula would be like this: I-IV-V. First, pick a major chord that would be your “I” or the root.  Then just find out what would be the IV and the V by counting from your “I” to IV and the V.

For Example: I would choose “A” major chord as my I. So “D” and “E” major chords would be my IV and V.  And lastly you should find the minor related chord. You just have to lower 3 half notes to get it. So if my I chord is A, the minor related chord would be F#m. So this is how the chord progression of A would look like: A-D-E-F#m

There it is! I hope you learned from the guitar playing basics I’ve shared. Happy strumming! :)

Words And Melodies

Having knowledge in some musical instrument is a BIG advantage in songwriting. Putting a melody on your words may take a lot of time to do especially if you are not so familiar with the “notes” you want to apply. So I suggest you should learn at least some of the basic guitar or piano chords. It may not be that easy to learn guitar or piano but patience is all that it takes. You don’t need to provide for the entire instrumental part though. Just do the basics and that would be fine to accompany your song.

3 Things You Should Know In Writing a Melody

Learn At least One Musical Instrument- As I said, it’s better if you can play at least one musical instrument that can accompany your song. Choose the instrument that you think you can be comfortable to use.

Choosing Your Music Genre- It’s also important to choose the genre of music that really suits your emotions because we don’t write just for the sake of writing; we write to express our feelings and to inspire people. Let your heart sing whenever you  are writing a melody.

Writing Your MelodyYour melody will depend on how you are feeling. So if you want your song to sound happy; you definitely have to write when you are feeling happy. Your words and melody are always connected to your emotions whether you like it or not.

Guitar Strings

Did you ever confuse yourself on what to write about? Or did you ever try to force yourself to write about anything just for the sake of having your own song? Well, I did. Just like any other songwriters out there, we all encountered such things. But do you have any idea on how to write a song effectively? I’m going to share my songwriting tips that helped me a lot through my songwriting journey.

Pen And Paper

Here are some basic tips in songwriting based on my own experience:

Inspiration-   It plays a big role in songwriting. Your inspiration will boost your emotions that will make you more expressive to your words. So being inspired will make your words fall into where it should be.

Focus- Make sure that the song you are writing has a clear direction. Point out what you really want to say. Never sacrifice the real meaning of the song just for the sake of making it sound good.

Never Force Yourself- Forcing yourself may just lead you to frustrations. So better wait for the perfect time until you really feel like writing.

Patience- Of course we need patience to everything we do. But songwriting demands more.  Some quit from the very start because of being impatient. Remember that songwriting is different from just writing. It takes a lot more.

Hope my own idea on writing a song helps. I’ll be more than grateful to hear your feedback.  :)

Internet Marketing

From being a songwriter, I believe that internet marketing is another field I should be into. Not just because I can showcase my talents through the internet but also to enhance my real profession. As a graduate of  Computer Programming, I know that I am capable of being an internet marketing agent. It may also be an advantage for me to improve my computer skills and to broaden my knowledge regarding internet marketing.

In pursuing something, I always make sure that I can manage to cope with it and that it can be my passion; not just something I “have” to do. And being knowledgeable in Computer, I think I have the abilities to succeed in this industry.

Songwriting Ideas

Basically, writing your own song requires creativity.  But it doesn’t requires you to be a good singer or a good musical instrumentalist. Songwriting is just a matter of expressing yourself, what you think or what you feel about anything. Don’t get frustrated when you feel like you are lacking of words to write for today because you might be able to write better by tomorrow. Once you don’t feel like writing, it’s better to not force yourself to write anything at the moment.  Even those professional songwriters surely had their bad songwriting days.

In songwriting, it doesn’t matter what language you prefer to use. Just as long as you enjoy what you are writing and it makes sense, that would be good enough because songs that are sensible are more appreciated by most listeners than songs that only  sound good but pointless  in terms of the message.
